Background of the Study
Women empowerment policies are designed to enhance the status and role of women in society by improving their access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and political participation. In Nigeria, gender equity remains a significant challenge despite ongoing efforts through various policies aimed at empowering women. Lafia Local Government, the capital of Nasarawa State, has seen considerable interventions in women empowerment through government initiatives like the National Gender Policy, and state-level programs designed to promote women’s access to resources, financial independence, and leadership roles (Nnamani & Yusuf, 2024). These efforts aim to create a gender-inclusive society where women have equal opportunities to contribute to economic growth and development. However, the effectiveness of these empowerment policies in achieving tangible gender equity remains a point of debate. This study will examine the impact of these women empowerment policies in Lafia Local Government, evaluating their contribution to advancing gender equity in the area (Omolara & Bakare, 2023).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the significant attention given to women empowerment in Nigeria, there remain gaps in achieving gender equity, particularly in rural areas such as Lafia Local Government. While policies exist, their implementation is often challenged by cultural norms, limited awareness, and insufficient funding (Adeyemi & Musa, 2023). This study seeks to assess whether these policies have had a measurable impact on improving the status of women in Lafia, and how far they have contributed to achieving gender equity in both the public and private spheres.

To evaluate the socio-economic impact of women empowerment programs on women’s participation in the workforce and leadership roles in Lafia.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to the ongoing discourse on gender equity and women empowerment in Nigeria by providing insights into the impact of empowerment policies on women in Lafia. The findings will inform policymakers, gender advocates, and local government officials on strategies to improve the effectiveness of women empowerment programs and promote gender equity across the nation.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on the impact of women empowerment policies in Lafia Local Government, Nasarawa State. The research is limited to this geographical area and will not cover other regions. Additionally, it will be constrained by factors such as limited access to data from relevant stakeholders and the potential lack of participation from certain segments of the population.
